Pulling radio is probably best to do to confirm code. After disconnecting the battery my radio would not play( 95 SL500) Did not have the code so went to the dealer and they looked it up for me. Radio still would not play. Turns ouat my radio must have been replaced and when dealer pulled it out athere was the correct code written on top of radio case. Took about 30 seconds to pull radio with the radio tools.

Similar problem with bad code for 99E430

I have the radio card, but the car must have a replacement unit in it with a different code.
The dealer says he wants to keep the car for an hour, which I'm sure means he'll want to charge accordingly.
So if I pull the unit, how do I get the code if it isn't written on the case?

The MB dealer and some of the techs in the forum can request Becker to provide the code for unit's serial number which is more accurate than going by the VIN. If MB wants your car for an hour, they're probably going to pull the unit to get the serial number.

Boy I can't believe they would charge you. I went to my nearest MB dealer and he pulled the radio ( 15 seconds at the most) and luckily the code was written on the case. If it was not on the case he would have checked the serial number and looked that up. I guess they did this as goodwill since the car is a 95 and they did not know me from Adam.
