1989 300E, can anyone help with what size speakers are in the dash and rear shelf? Was thinking of replacing them, but have not been able to find the max. depth/thickness possible.

I think your dash ports are the same as ours, and I fit Boston Acoustics FX-4 speakers there without a problem. Very nice sound, and they fit our rear deck as well. To get more bass capability, I top-mounted a set of 6.5" Polk separates in our rear deck instead, which required some cutting of the package panel (but not the metal), and using the Polk grilles.

Note this is a 190E.
