Tape Deck 'Clean Me' message

I've been listening to a lot of tapes these past few weeks. Yesterday, a long BEEP came out of my 95 280C tape player. I looked down, and there was a CLEAN message on the display. I don't know what kind of radio it is, it says' mercedes on it.
Anyone ever seen this before, and what do I use to clean it. I'm not going in there with q-tips!.
