iPod Adapter Help - Brand New E350
Hi,
I just took delivery of a 2007 E350 (Premium 1 and Sport Package) yesterday and am researching what the best thing to do for iPod connectivity. So far, it sounds like using the MB iPod integration setup is a good idea. However, on initial blush, my local dealership seems to be charging a very high/exorbitant price for this... they want over $800 to have this setup... and the parts only cost $321!!! Is this normal? I plan on calling the service department tomorrow to try and negotiate. Is there a different alternative? How dificult is it to install one of these myself? Any other experiences out there? BTW, I plan on using a new gen iPod Nano that I bought exclusively for car use only. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your help. WJK |

I have a 2005 C class. I bought the kit on ebay for 250 dollars. I installed it myself by researching on several mercedes forums how to take the radio out. This information should be pretty much the same for the E class. Once the radio is out is a plug and play wiring harness. The kit has a black box thats a tight fit in the area below the radio behind the air conditioner control panel. Once you have this set up, you have to have the dealer program it in order to be able to use it, if you don't have the phone option previously programed. The instructions call for the ipod to go in the glove compartment with a cradle that comes with the kit. I opted to use a Denison cradle bolted in the ash tray compartment for easier use of the I pod. Hope this helps.

Many newer benzes have an aux in port in the glove box it is a mini stereo.
Some do not. it iis just a cable as far as I know. if you have the nav system, you could get a nav tv unit that will give you aux input and aux video input to the nav system. If you have the normal radio and do not have the aux in port int he glove box, try holding down the CD changer button for a few seconds. if the unit switches to aux mode, then all you need is a cable, which I believe costs less than $100.00 but am not 100% sure on the price. I know I have heard of one for the c class from 2006 up I believe that has the newer style radio that is around that price. Is the mb factory one they have that they want $800.00 for allow you to controlt he ipod via the radio and does it give you text on the screen. if so that is really not too bad of a price all things considered. But you may want to check www.densionusa.com and call them on the phone to ask them if they have one for your car. they make a nice unit that works quite well, but they may not have the unit that works in your car yet. on some of the command units, there is an aux setting that is under the SVC menu under one of the sub menus, and technically all you would need is the cable that plugs into the radio. on the c class the newer ones 06 - 07 I believe, the plug in for the cable is either behind the passenger side kick panel, or in the cable tray just below the passenger kick panel under the carpet.
