CD changer skips on rough roads

The factory CD changer in my 2001 skips quit a bit - maybe 3-5 times per song. Is this a known issue? Is there any area (wiring, mount, etc) in particular I should look into? If it's the changer are there any plug-in aftermarket units? Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply Raymond!

I don't know what the acronyms you refer to are but the car is an '01 E55 with the Bose system. My understanding is that this system uses fiber.

John,

The CD player in my 2001 E55 did the same thing. The dealer replaced it under warranty and it fixed the problem. It isn't normal for them to do this but it sounds like a common problem.

there is a toggle on the changer chassis to be set for horiz v vert mounting
position. this may need to be viewed to see if the setting is appropriate for
your changer/position.

TSB - technical service bulletin. email me and i can zap to you. sounds like
your 2001 is using D2B. those ended with 2002 model year, I believe and then
switched over to MOST but I'm not familiar with that since I dont own one or
worked on one.

also...is your CD a commercial recording, or home brewed? sadly, the MB
changers of that vintage are notoriously picky when playing back home burned
recordings. there are threads offering various suggestions on how best to
record.

Thanks for all the help especially Raymond!

The changer was set for horizontal and I was able to switch it to vertical.
