Bluetooth: inside the head unit Vs standalone

In the process of selecting a high quality HU I ended up narrowing the selection down to two HUs
1. Nakamischi CD-400 (or 500) - reason= sound quality
2. Pioneer 9800 w/integrated bluetooth. reason = important function + very good sound quality

Clearly the Nakamichi excells in sound.
I cannot have both at the same time...
This raises the question: What are the pros and cons of teh Nakamichi and a separated Bluetooth solution Vs the integrated ?
Among the many concerns of separating things is the installation itself. I would like very much to avoid more gizmos in the dash, with different aesthetics etc.
Many thanks for your comments and possible recommendations of standalone Bluetooth.
