Do you like your MB Quart speakers?

Just looking for some reactions to these speakers, specifically the 5 1/4" DKE-113 for the rear of the w123. (And the 110's for the front.) There are some posts mentioning that people have installed them, but I'm looking for folks who have some mileage with the speakers. Any bass response at all? Onlinecarstereo.com has them for $49.99 right now. Trying to decide between them and a pair of Polks that are about $20 more. Thanks for your responses.

Joe

Many people here praise the MB Quart speakers.... I have heard their component lines, and I do like their sound. They have nice highs like the infinity line.

I personally am an Infinity man... I have all infinity in my car. The polks were a close second, but the highs on the infinity were better.

I find the Quarts WAY too bright and harsh. Put a new set of them in my Porsche and very quickly swapped them back out for Polk Audio db series drivers.

I'm with W124.090, well sort of, I like Polk Audio over Infinity actually, but like W124.090, only ever so slightly. I think the Polks sound slightly "tighter".

Depends on what line you get. I've got the MB Quart 4" Discus (cheapie line) in my 190e, they just don't do it for me. However, I've heard the more expensive stuff and it sounds amazing. Currently switching to all CDT stuff.

I just got a "new" '87 190E 5 speed, and will be putting in 4 MB Quarts.

I had them for 2 yrs in my 300D and they were excellent. Maybe it depends on what music you listen to, but I am mostly on with classic rock, bluegrass, and having spent my ears informative years probably way too close to alot of big Marshall amps
I appreciate the extra highs that MB Quarts put out.

IN my 82 CD I installed 4 BEYMAs front & rear and no way do these Italian creations come close to a good set of MBQ.

These speakers work well if you enjoy cruising at 75 on a highway with the windows down, giant sunroof wide open & Eat A Peach cranked up to "9 or 10".

I've found that the deck being used has something to do with it also. I had a Pioneer unit in my car for the longest time. I thought it sounded great. I had an opportunity to put an Alpine IVA100 in. The same music I listened to sounded completely different. Went back to Pioneer.
Just my 2 cents

The biggest difference in sound that I have experiences was adding a 4 channel amp to the mix. It was like pulling the veil off the music. The highs got clearer, music got louder, and the bass more tight and punchy.

Oh yeah, sound is sweet.

And I ONLY run Pioneer. They have the best digital processors in their units.\

Also since last wiring that post, I have changed my speakers 3 times, but I am back with my Infinity speakers again. Unmatched clarity.... In the mean time, I had a set of MB Quart Components, Alpine Components, and Polks. Out of those 3, I liked the polks the best, but still nothing comes close to the sound that Infinitys put out.....

Headroom baby, dynamic headroom. ALWAYS amp your system. Let those drivers BREATHE !

Maybe I'll try the Infinities in the MB first. I liked the Polks slightly better in the Boxster, but that could be because there is almost no accoustical influance from the interior in a cabrio. In the 300E, its totally different. They may be real sweet in the MB.

That amp is sweet. Its going to sound sweet.

Be careful of the highs though. Untuned Infinitys will pierce your eardrums.
