Hi Everyone.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P7300 over the weekend in my '87 300E. My question is how do you secure it in the slot. I could not use the plastic tabs that held the becker unit so I snipped them off. And the bracket that came with the unit could not fit into the slot. So my main problem is that the unit, by itself, is not a perfect fit so when pressed, it slides into the slot. I could not screw it into the slot from underneath because screw holes on the unit is to far back beyond the plastic floor it sits on. My temp solution is real bad, I wrapped breathable bandage tape around the front edge of the unit just so it is thick enough and the unit catches so it doesn't slide, but this is not the solution I want.

Please, any advise and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What I was planning on doing was taking the metal sleeve that fits around the head unit and cutting off the top and a thin strip of each upper side of the sleeve so that it is |__| shaped. This will give me a little extra play for the unit to slide in. I am going to drill holes in the bottom for the plastic tabs to snap into, then attach the |__| to the head unit and slide it in until it catches on the plastic tabs. Since your tabs are gone, maybe you could cut the sleeve as above, drill 2 tiny holes in the sleeve where the tabs would normally go, and get matching size rubber grommets at the harddare store for the two holes. This should provide a slight protrusion to go into the holes where your tabs were located. Good luck.

The easiest way is to file the two upper corners (horizontal part) since mercedes has these corners set a bit lower to fit their OEM Becker units. After these corners are filled flat, the casing for your Pioneer will fit the slot.

Thats weird, my alpine has the normal bracket that it came with in the slot just fine.

When my brother had his 190E, we put a kenwood pull out in there and it worked just fine with no mods either.

I would do a bit of filing if needed.

Sometimes it might be a tight fit, but tight fit is ok by me.
