Replacing the 1432 Head Unit, will CD Changer work?

I finally had enough troubles from the Becker 1432 two piece radio on my 92 400E, I am tied of the repairing it.

I am thinking about replacing the head unit, trunk mount receiver and two amps with a Nakamichi TD45Z or Alpine head unit. Since a single modern head unit can delivery more power than the stock 1432 separate amps. I want to remove anything but the Silverstone 10 CD changer.

My question is whether my CD changer will work with modern Nakamichi or Alpine head units? these head units all support CD changers, but I am not sure if they are compatible with my Stock CD changer.

Thanks

I doubt that it will work. The connectors used are probably different. If they are the same you might have a chance.

I have the same system in one of my cars and I might be interested in your old system. I plan some heavy modifications to mine and I want it for spare parts. Are you interested in selling it ?

If I can find a compatible head unit, I would probably get rid my stock 1432 system.

This time seems like the CPU in the head unit is dead, the IIC pins from CPU to the face plate doesn't work, the CPU is not a generic part, it has an on-chip ROM, firmware was burnt into CPU by factory, only available from Becker.

I'll contact you if I will be replacing my stock system.

The becker silverstone 980 cd changer although it is a sony at the core its electronics and language is 100% becker. There are no known head units that will work with your cd changer other than the one that you have. Remember you will have to run an antenna coax from the trunk to the dash.

Scott

Thank you for the information.

After I got the reply for you, I decided to give it the last try, found out the the volume switch in the faceplate had a short circuit, this masked all the another switches on the faceplate, after I separated the shorted contact pins and cleaned it, my headunit came back to life!!

Then after it accepted the code, it displayed E-3, after a full day of scratching head, I found the synthesizer IC SAA1057 in the receiver was dead, It screwed up the IIC bus, caused trunk mount receiver couldn't power on itself.

Removal of this IC temporarily solved the problem, I can use CD and cassette now, but without synthesizer, radio doesn't work. Hope I can find replacement part easily, I got the information from Philips semiconductor's home page, this chip was first release in 1983, hehe, hope they are still selling it.

Have a nice Christmas.
