What are the largest speakers that will fit in my 1979 280CE with minimal cutting (in both the rear deck and dash)? From previous threads, it seems as if I won't get much bass from stock speaker size and that's fine with me. I just want to be able to turn the radio up when a good song comes on.

Hello,
The dash speakers are 4". (you may have to cut off a corner of the speaker to make it fit in the space allotted) The rear will take the same, but it looks like there is a small possibility that with a shoehorn perhaps you could go up a size. Also, with the dash, be sure not to get something too "tall", some 3ways are that way, and they'll make the plastic cover bulge. PS Mercedes ought to be ashamed for putting in the stock speakers that they did in my '83...I am embarassed to admit to anyone that they came with that otherwise fine automobile. Have fun..oh and if your going to upgrade the radio itself, be sure to do a search on wiring, or you might as well buy yourself a radio with only 2 speaker outputs. -Larry ------------------ 03/83 300D 07/73 280 [This message has been edited by Larry Delor (edited 03-01-2000).] |
