Question w140

I found this picture on the Internet. Anybody knows what is in the upper right corner next to the emergency button?

it could be the stationary / aux heater.. check your instruction manual, it will show it. The aux heater heats the car when there's no-one in it (on a timer) or the engines not warm yet.

later

Pentoman is right, it's the control panel for the aux heater (Webasto heater). The Webasto heater is a gasoline powered coolant heater. It can be programmed when to come on with this panel.
It differs from REST function of the climate control in that REST function is used with a warm engine, it circulates the already warm coolant and operates the climate control fan.
We have a customer with a 124 chassis gray market or Canadian car with the same thing.

OOPS

Sorry, guess you learn something new everyday. How could I get one? Was it an option at the factory?

I believe it is available as an accessory. I've seen installation instructions for it on WIS. Maybe because it's gas powered, you can't get it here? I know old VW's had gas powered heaters, but that was quite a while ago. I bet if you could get one, it would be cost prohibitive to buy and install, but some people accept "cost prohibitive" as a challenge!
