Mounting position for a vented box

Does anyone know what would be the best way to place a vented enclusure in a 300E?
Is it best to have the sub facing the back with ports going through the rear deck, or have the sub fire up towards the rear deck and have the ports go somewhere else.
Any suggestions would be appreciated?
