Had the gain adjusted on the amp and solved most of the brightness problem. The Focals are amazing.

SS109, took the HU out and looked for the green wire w/ black stripe. Found couple green wires but none with a black stripe. My only guess is that the wiring might be different on the '01 CLK430. I'll try to do some more research.

Yeah, it may be diffrent. Go to your dealer, they should be able to look it up for you.

Dealer hooked up computer and disabled the volume in less than 10 minutes. No charge.

I tell you this from much experience and with much sincerity:

Be thankful you have a dealer that knows what to do with your car, and is willing to do it.
Even on small stuff like your vol control.

Let them know you appreciate their efforts.
I would give almost anything for a dealer that had a clue what the hell they were doing, and seemed care in the least about customer satisfaction.
