I want to keep my W126 300SD as stock as possible, but would like to have more of the bass tones. Is it possible to use a subwoofer with my Becker, and if so, how?

Its possible if you really want to do that.
I would suggest you get a hi-lo convertor(what this does is to make your line level output to preamp output)available at car audio stores and add a amp and a subwoofer to the amplifier which will give you some bass. You will need to get an enclosure for the sub and port it inside the main passenger area as well. However this has a downside to it too and that is that depending on how good an amplifier you buy it may induce some noise. Given the quality of MB radios i would really change it but if you must keep this is a good compromise. I would also change those factory speakers while you upgrading. Goodluck. ------------------ A.Velji 88 300E/140000km Debadged and Monotoned 16" E430 OEM Wheels 205/55/16 Tires ![]() [This message has been edited by AV (edited 11-21-2000).] [This message has been edited by AV (edited 11-21-2000).] |

Another option is to get a powered sub-woofer. Types like the Bazooka Powered Sub-woofer allow you to take wires from your rear speakers and attach them, plus a power wire and mount the sub in your trunk. It's probably not as good as the seperate amp and sub in pass-through enclosure, but it's simple.

a lowpass converter would get the job done nicely - sounds like you want a sq (sound quality) sub, so your best bets are 1 infinity perfect 10.i, audiobahn aw1000, or idq/boston actoustic/various others depending on how much you want to spend. A perfect 10.i will run about $140-150, and the aw1000, in my opinion the best deal for subs, is less than $100. I would get a 2 channel amp that does about 250-300 rms at 4 ohms bridged. Hifonics, Autotek, Mtx, all are good low-priced options. Infinity, blaupunkt, memphis, others are better high priced amps. Hifonics is my personal favorite. If you're adding a sub to your factory system, you may find that the bass is overpowering your other speakers - my recommendation to you is to keep your head unit, get a four channel amp, then a good set of components or coax's with good midbass and excellent highs (boston rally, infinity kappa, infinity perfect), run them off two channels on the amp, take out your rear speakers (you really dont need them since you're putting in a sub), and put the sub on the remaining two channels, bridged. This way your highs/mids wont be overpowered by your bass, and your sound system will be dramatically better. Also, by taking out the rear speakers, you are allowing much more bass to enter the cabin from your sub in the trunk.
