huge ratteling from my trunk in W124...help solve!
Hey guys, I finally got my system set up except for a good amp in the 500E. I put a JL 12W3 with a custom built box in the trunk. I did not port the sound in, because the sub is so loud already that I have to turn it down because it hurts my ears But anyways, the problem is my trunk rattles like crazy! And i cannot find what is ratteling. It's not my license plate, and it's not the bumper because i've tried holding the bumper still, and it makes no difference at all. It is something underneath behind the bumper. Anyone have this problem and know what is ratteling?

First off, make sure your spare tire is secured firmly. Next, I'd recommend you insert pipe insulation into the trunk springs-I used the stuff made to wrap 1/2" pipe. Next, ensure the filler panel around your rear license plate is real secure.
With all this done, crank it up & crawl underneath back there-mine's pretty quiet, and I built my sub into the spare tire well. But, boy, if the spare tire becomes loose, it makes a racket!!

Also I have heard many cars, my previous car included, that the lights really rattle alot. I am not sure what you would do to correct this if this is the case. I know if you take it to a car stereo shop they can remove the carpeting from the trunk and spray it with a sound deadening spray that is supposed to help with rattles.

my spare tire is very secure, it's something from under the chassis/the trunk. I can't get under my car to see what it is. I have nothing to hoist it up on.

Rattling from trunk
Have you checked the upper mounts of the rear shocks. Loose mounting nut(s) will cause rattling. These are hidden by the carpeting over the rear fender wells which needs to be pulled back to expose the securing nut.
