Bypass Console Fader in 85 300SD W126

I did a search and I can't find anything conclusive, so here goes:

Before I pull up my center conole in a W126 85 300SD, in order to bypass the fader control, what should I see when I get under there? What is the wiring code? Is it difficult to just match the wires attached to the fader to the speaker wires on the back of the head unit (Blaupunkt Alaska)?

Right now, I am using the fader, but after about 15 minutes of listening, the left channel fades out, and sound only comes from the right channel. I can power the unit off, then back on, sound is restored, for another 10-15 minutes, then the left channel cuts out again. I thought bypassing the fader would elimiate this behavior. Am I correct in this hypothisis?

I want to get the head unit working correctly before I drop in new speakers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks !

J

J,

I've bypassed the fader in my '85 300SD. Had the shop do it when the new headunit was installed.

From how you describe the behavior, I'm not so certain it IS the fadder that's causing this. It sounds more like the headunit is having a problem.

As for what you'll see under there....I forget but it's not difficult. If you don't already have the repair CD's, get some. You can find the schematic on there. The connections are pretty straight forward and bypassing the fadder is pretty simple.
