Manually operating antenna

Hi all,

This is simular to previous post, I am hoping new title will help.

I can't figure out how to manually operate my antenna. Stuck down, works sometimes and not others. Been slowly failing more and more frequently, I am hoping it's the motor and not some electrical gremlin.

I can find post explaining how to raise antenna manually, CD doesn't help either.

I can see a white plastic nob on the motor with arrows indicating it turns but I can't turn it, not sure if I am supposed to push in or pull out while turning or release some kind of lock or something.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joel

Smile Manual Extending the Antenna

Hire Manual to drive the car AND raise the antenna.

I just replaced my antenna as it became flaky. Note that many new replacement Hirshmann MB model specific antennas are on eBay for under $50 uncluding s/h. Such a deal.

If you can hear the motor...Probably, you just need a new mast!

They are around $30. They have the instructions on the package. Very easy to install

The antenna mast does need to be cleaned and lubed once and a while for continued smooth operation. As stated previously the mast is easy to replace, take one wrench and about 35 seconds as long as the nylon track isn't (doesn't ) broken. If the track is broke then you have to crack open the motor case and fish out the pieces. Not too bad if you proceed slow and cautiously.

just replied to your other post. Do a search under my name, for 'aerial' or 'antenna'. I wired my antenna's motor to a switch on the dash, It was very easy, and I posted a description (about 8 months ago).

Manually Operating Antenna

The antenna on my 260e had trouble going all the way up. I temporarily fixed it by switching on the radio and running to the antenna to pull it up while the motor was operating. While it was up, I disconnected the power connector so the antenna now stays up all the time. I can't go through the automatic car wash until I get it fixed.

I also had a problem with the antenna on my '92 300e. I was able to dissasemble and clean the mast sections to get it working again.

Good Luck.

Thanks all

I appreciate the responses.

I lubed with WD40 and let it sit over night. Worked in the morning.

I am still a little confused about the nob on the motor. Looks like it should allow me to opperate manually but I can't turn it. I switched the radio on and ran to the back of the car to see how the antenna worked, the nob did not turn nor did I see anything moving but the antenna went up and down.

I think I'll pull the whole assembly out and once on my workbench I'll be able to really clean out and figure out.

Thanks again guys,
Joel
