Question Setup question...please help!!

OK guys, here are some questions that I hope all you experts can help me with. I have a 190 E 2.3 8vlv, 1987. Right now, I have an Alpine 7893 headunit, Infinity Kappa 42.3 I in the front dash, an Infinity basslink in the trunk. I have an '87, with no factory amps, 4 inch speakers all the way around. This is what i WANT to do.......replace the basslink with two 12" infinity kappa perfect subs (maybe even have the basslink in there too??would that be possible or even make sense?) Put infinity kappa components either in the rear deck or in the doors up front. people say i shouldnt put them up front along with the 4", because it would mess up the staging or something. And i would like to replace the rear deck speakers. Here are my questions:

What would be the best speaker setup, and where should I put them? I love the kappa perfect components, have the kappa 4"s, and would add 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 in the back (of course, kappas)

Some have suggested moving the 4s to the back, adding components up front, and forgetting about adding the larger 2 or 3 way speakers somewhere else.

If i get the two 12" perfect subs in a box (12.1, single coil), i would need an amp, thinking about the Alpine mrd-m500 (500w @2ohms, therefore each sub would receive 250 Watts). is there a better amp choice? and if I were to leave the basslink up and running, would i have any problems with my battery or alternator? would capacitors help?

Thanks for all your help.

Here's a Basslink/12"sub combo to consider...

I've been having quite a time on another forum (CarAudioForum.com) regarding my just recently completed install in my streetrod. I'm keeping the Basslink for now, despite the arguments to lose it. No matter what anyone says, it sounds better to me with the Basslink 'on' than 'off'.
The difficulty is explaining the technical side of why it sounds better. Since the amp that drives the 12" subs (all MTX, amp is 250W mono, running each at 125W into 2 ohms) has the same gain/freq/equal adjustments as the Basslink, I'm trying to set the subs up for 'punch', and use the Basslink for a lower frequency 'fill'.
Some say that this setup is bad because the speakers aren't all the same, or the Basslink will cancel the sound from the subs, but I really can't hear this when it's all running.
I'd keep it until you get your main subs in, then decide.
