Stereo won't switch on, aftermarket CD player works, fuse fine

Post pretty much sums it up,stereo won't go on,although the security light blinks and fuse is ok, so I know I have power. My brother suggested leaving key on acc. postion for 2 hrs. and trying lock code (5 digits) tried it twice. Tomorrow trying it with stereo off, and then entering codes.
Any ideas?

Stereo Problem

Hi Mel Weaver,
Though this is a Mercedes Forum we all understand that some members own more than one car and also different makes. Don't feel bad about asking for help. I service all brands and makes of OEM stereo equipment so I should be able to help you. From what you have described it sounds like the radio you have is a Alpine/BMW CM5903 radio. The problem you have is not uncommon to that model but is servicable. Please contact me directly and I will advise you as to how to get your problem fixed. Thank you for being a part of the Mercedes Forum.

Cleeve,
BMW says I should disconnect battery overnight (I pulled fuses), another shop pulled stereo and checked wires for power-had good power-verdict: dead stereo, a third gave me an Appt. for Thurs., will check it out then. All are wondering why I don't have a "code" prompt.
I give up!
