Antenna Seal

Can anyone provide me with the steps required to replace a antenna seal on a 87 300 SDL. Thanks for the help.

SDL Antenna Seal

I would think the 86 and 87 should be close/same. I wore a dunce hat when I changed mine by trying to shortcut and slide over antena and force into hole from outside - that doesn't work.
Retract antenne, remove interior trunk, remove ground cable and two mounting screws from motor assembly. Replace seal from inside (kinda snaps into place). and backtrack on the above instructions. I spent probably and hour trying to grease up the new seal and slide from the outside before taking the 20 minutes to do it correctly by removing the components.

TX76513,

Could you please clarify the exact components you separated in order to insert the seal? Is it just the smaller piece near the top, the one to which the grounding wire and radio connection take place, that seems to spin on the silver steel shaft? Thanks.

I did take the grounding wire off - but didn't think it was necessary. Did not want the motor assembly just dangling there by the grounding wire.

Finally got around to trying my luck with the antenna seal. After figuring out the nuts on the bottom of the motor assembly, it was easy to get the old seal off. Then after manipulating the seal to fianlly sit in place, re-assembly was easy. Thanks for the help.

Now you not only have a new seal installed, but you also know how to yank the antenna assembly. Not a bad thing to know, because every once in a while they start acting up, which in my case meant simply a disassembly, thorough cleaning, and re-greasing....
