Problem Entering Radio Code

I had to replace my battery recently and now my radio wants a code. I have the original papers for the car and the code card but it won't accept the code. Am I doing something wrong???

I have a '96 E300D and I presume it has the Alpine radio since it has the CD changer controls on it (I just bought the car used).

Here is what I've done so far:

1. At the CODE prompt I enter the 5-digit code
2. I press the SC button (I've also tried TUNE)
3. Radio goes back to CODE

Now I have to wait 10 minutes to try again and I've tried it 3 times already. Any Tips???

not original radio

Problem solved... The radio must have been replaced at one point and the new code card never made it into the paperwork I got. Gilly you hit that one on the head.

MB dealer was able to look up the VIN and had the new radio code even though the radio was replaced by 2 owners back and in FL (I'm in MI). I was impressed.

Have tunes again

Gilly,
I have the smae problem...the car just went into the shop and battery was disconnected. The shop got the code from the dealer but the code does not work...now the shop is saying that the Becker 1432 in my 92 SL was not standard equipment and was replaced by previous owner. Any ideas?

In all american 91 to 93 129's the 1432 was standard equiptment. There are two possible problems one is that you have the wrong code as we have seen ( check the serial # on the chassis of the head unit in the dashboard. If upon verifying the code and it is right but still doesn't respond then the code board in the radio is probably out. Check in with Cleeve in my repair shop at www.mercedesradiorepair.net and he can help you out...

Thanks Scott. The dealer has provided 2 codes, one from the VIN and the other from the radio serial number, but neither codes work.

Will be back stateside at the end of the year...will drop the unit off to you guys to have a look at it then. In the meantime, just bought a Nakamichi MB VI to replace the current unit.

Thanks again.

Scott,
Dealer is having the Nak installed for me today...any thoughts on the Nak? Could not find Becker head units here in HK and Nak was only high end unit available here that did not look like a mobile rave party.

I think the nak looks the nicest but the quality is usually lower than standard and not very long lasting. I think it will due in the interum. I hope they get it right for you.

Thanks, I hope so too. Did not know that Naks aren't that great. What would you recommend?
