Question 92 300D 2.5 W124 New system advice

1992 300D just about done with the motor and body.

I would like to find out opinions and ideas from those who have done it.

I plan to mount an amp 400 . Using plywood, I would attach the wood to the back of the rear seat. I would mount the amp to it.
Q= Would the amp overheat from lack of air?

Is there a channel that I may run the stero wires and RCA's?

What speakers have you mounted on the rear? Thinking of 2way 6x9's

What have you mounted on the doors? I have 5" Vifas on a 4runner. They work great.

Did you replace the dash speakers? I do not even know which way to go.

How about a place to mount a tweeter(sp?).

I have never had a problem with pioneer. The head units get the best reception in the LA area.
Any head unit rec.?

Does anyone have a wire dia. to replace the stock becker. I need to find out the color codes to each speaker, Hot wire, memory, and remote antenna.

Are these stock beckers worth anything?

Thank you

Nick Mendoza

When you say, mount it to the back of the rear seat, I wonder where? Isn't the fuel tank right behind the seat, so that you'd have to mount it in the trunk? There are grommet plugs from the trunk into the cabin area that you can run hefty power cable under the carpet to the amp.

update on plans

I am not going to mount the amp to the tank. I am going to put 3/8 plywood onto the straps and then mount the amp to the wood.

Would the amp overheat from lack of air?

How about a sub? Where have others mounted or hid a good sub?

Thank you

Sorry for the confusion Nick, but it sounded like you were going to mount the amp on the inside of the passenger cabin, somewhere behind the rear seat, either on the backrest or under the seat cushion. If the plywood panel is going into the trunk, then there's really no concen about overheating, there's plenty of air in the trunk to dissapate the heat from the amp's heat sink. As for positioning subs, there are several options. Subs in a proper enclosure can be mounted in the trunk, either towards the passegner compartment area, or built into corners where the trunk pockets are. Porting the bass into the cabin can either be done by removing the first aid kit plastic box and creating a grill or by removing the rear OEM speakers and using those openings as ports. There are also smaller free air subs that might fit onto the hatrack panel without a rear enclosure, and standalone powered subs like the Infinity.
