I picked up a set of 4 used but like new Rainbow (German) speakers for the 124. My first question, all 4 seem to be identical --- is that right, or are there supposed to be 2 fronts and 2 rears? I had no trouble installing the Rainbows in the front and they sound good. But I can't get the rear speakers to fit in the plastic adapter ring (the one that the factory speakers are mounted in). There doesn't seem to be any way to get the Rainbows to be secured in that ring. Can anyone help??? Thanks much. PS I have the Rainbow instructions are they are not helpful as they are in German.

I can't help you with the rear speakers, but I am curious if you could maybe explain how the rainbows fit in the dash. I have an 87 300e, and when I bought it it already had different speakers mounted in the dash, screwed directly in to the soft dash material. So now I don't know how the stock speakers had fit, or if rainbows will work. An explaination of how the rainbows are held in place is fine. Thanks.

To answer dirtysocks' question, with the rainbows the fronts are held in the same way as the factory speakers - there are 2 flexible metal tabs and 1 fixed tab that let you snap the speakers into place. If the PO didn't enlarge the factory opening, you should be able to use the rainbows. in the back, I have now figured out the rainbows are supposed to come with a plastic adapter ring that has tabs that fit into the factory opening, but my used rainbows didn't come with the adapter rings. Anyone know where I can get some???

schumi, I know you can pull a plastic ring with holes in it off the top of the stock speakers. Maybe that ring would work? If you even have the stocks, that is.
P.S. Pulling off this ring destroys the stock speakers!
