I prefer the synthetic chamois PVA towels to the ShamWows - which are essentially felt or dryer lint colored and sold - they DO hold water, but do NOT provide as much total water pickup as the PVAs.

Natural chamois isn't bad either - just requires more attention than synthetic.

appreciate the responses gang...I think the ShamWow is a piece of junk, the wife told me one night when I was mocking the commercial that she went ahead and ordered them/it...whatever. So I took a less postured wait and see attitude (as not to bum anyone out) and check them out.
They arrived and they are not good.....I have used them under various conditions and have found them only to work (as advertised) is if you dump a complete can of Pepsi into a pie tin and then use the ShamWow to soak all of it up and then wring it out into the sink. They don't take moisture off of my 1990 300TE windshield, just smears, they don't dry my hair anymore quickly than a reguluar towel or simply the air itself...I think ShamWows WowSuck...these things are junk....

Try a Griot's Garage micro fiber drying towel. They are expensive, but work remarkably well ... better than any other towel I've ever used.
