Are Clear Corners Legal?

I recently read a very vague description of the DOT requirements for clear indicators. But this description was somewhat confusing. I was wondering if anyone knows what the actual DOT requirement is. Do you need to slap on the side marker if you install clear corners? Or does the amber bulb take care of everything?

I believe you are safe if you use the amber bulbs

2357 OSRAM Sylvania orange bulb, the dealer sells the same thing you can get at checker.

Just dont put any colors like red (impersonation of fire trucks/ people think its the rear of the car), blue (impersonation of officer), green (forestry service vehicles.) Just dont use those colors. Id go with the bulbs I said they look the best. I can take a picture of my brothers car with clears. I only think they look good on light cars. Dark cars, I really like the 94/95 E class turn signals.

Thanks guys, actually i would like to see a pic of your brothers car. I have a black 1986 Euro 16V and i was contemplating purchasing some clear blinkers but i didn't want to put the side markers on and i didn't want to get a ticket if they were illeagal. Do the E-class blinkers fit a 201? So thanks, when i get some cash i will probably buy them, but as of right now i am dry, I just bought some polished silver (high sheen) EVO II wheels and some Sumitomo tires.

190es take different turn signals than the 300E, you know 201 vs 124. I can still send you pictures if you want.

http://mb190.tripod.com/ Look at rays car in readers rides...That was the first one I saw. I know there are some members from here on that page.

Ok...this is completely something different but in the same run.

What about all those dark/clear/red taillights? Are they legal?

You have to see red when you brake from the rear. Thats what cops look for. Or they look for a stamp that says DOT (department of transportation) you should be safe if you can see red.

Oh yeah i guess i never specified that i am just talking about the front corners, i'm not trying to pinp out my Civic or Integra here guys. I'm not looking for Altezzas. I was just wondering if the clear corners in the front were legal and what the requirements are. I think that the OEM tailights are part of the identity of the car. I don't particularly think that changing them would add anything to the overall appeal. But it seems at night your front blinkers must reflect in others headlights. So if you put clear blinkers in, do they still reflect?

At one time the Feds required DOT approved, side - visible orange front and red rear reflectors (sometimes incorporated into the turn signals, sometimes separate). I don't know if anything has changed, but I notice that the new cars with factory clear front indicators all seem to have a separate amber reflector on the bumper corner or lower fender.

Another option is to get the newer 'semi-clear' corners Mercedes is using on new models. When I upgraded my headlights to the Euro lights, I also bought the newer style corners which are all clear except for a small portion along the back which is amber. From the front, they look perfectly clear. From the side, they are about 3/5 clear, 2/5 amber. They look good, are OEM and are legal. Just a thought.

That sounds like a good idea, i saw those when i went to the dealer to pick up my wheels the other day (which by the way look perfect, i mean when they were mounted i thought i was dreaming) i happened to see a few late 90's C-class parked in the lot with those half and half corners and they did look great. Where did you buy yours, the dealer? How much? Do they make them for the 201?
