Jeep Liberty diesel
Has anyone seen this vehicle yet? I thought it was to have been out by now. Future possibilities will surely include the Dakota pickup.
"Jeep Liberty will offer the first diesel in the U.S. mid-size sport-utility vehicle segment, adding torque, power, and range. The 2.8 liter common-rail turbodiesel engine is rated at an estimated 160 horsepower (120 kW) at 3800 rpm with an enormous 295 lb.-ft. (400 N.m) at 1800 rpm, providing class-leading torque and towing capability. Diesel engines offer increased torque, towing, and range, while improving fuel economy an average of 25 percent and reducing CO2 emissions by an average of 20 percent." "The diesel engine will be available on both Sport and Limited models with a Chrysler heavy-duty 545RFE five-speed automatic only. This engine, a Detroit Diesel VM model, has been well received in Jeeps sold in Europe for some time." (from the Jeep Liberty site) |

Just read a review in the paper last week about the Liberty.
I think the only negative thing he found on the car was diesel fumes in the cabin.

They are taking orders I believe. Also they have a diesel truck/TJ that will be at the Jan. 05 auto show. Same engine.

That's a pretty cool-looking prototype...
But I'd rather they'd put that engine in the Dakota like the original poster said.
Actually, what I'd REALLY like to see is for Toyota to sell diesel pickups here again! Gimme a 4WD crew-cab Tacoma and I could die happy. ![]()

Toyota diesel pickup
I have to agree on the diesel Toyota. Had an '83 that I bought new and kept for 10 years. Got around 35 mpg and was absolutely bulletproof. Wish I still had it.

Small diesel P/U 's rule the rest of the world. Nearly every P/U and 1/2 the SUX's in Panama are diesel. When I move back down there I'm taking the three 617's with me......
