Help..How do you use the "timing port" on a Fuel Pump? 85 300D

 I removed my Fuel Pump to have it rebuilt and I have rotated my engine in the interim.
Can someone tell me how you use the Timing Port on the side of the 300D fuel pump? Apparently inside that port is a Timing Indicator that you should set prior to removing the injection pump.
Previously I always removed them at #1 TDC and put them back at #1 TDC. Unfortunately this time I did not remove it at #1 TDC, and I have lost my IP pump timing by readjusting my valves after I removed the pump. The engine is now at another position and I dont know what the original position was...
How do I restablish my timing using the timing port and indicator within..

It is not that hard and personally I would not worry to much about the timing port. Set the engine to 24 degree BTDC and line up the splines on the IP and install it. Look at the cam lobes when you do this to make sure you are at 24 degrees BTDC on #1.

Would he also need to fine tune the IP timing by doing the drip method?

I meant to say line up the "notch" on the spline. There was a pic posted in another thread. It probably would not hurt to do the drip test on it. The last engine I rebuilt I did as posted without performing the drip test and the engine fired right up.

Can you point me to that thread and picture?
