dieseling, brakes, etc.

accidentally posted this question in the wrong forum. i was driving on the garden state pkwy when my oil pressure dropped. oil everywhere. to make a long story short a mechanic charged me 266 bucks to replace the oil line from the turbo. the problem is that now for some reason my brakes are very hard to press down and they feel very limited in their stopping power. the car is also dieseling and i have to press the stop button when get out of the car. also the tranny is shifting a little harder. is this all a vacuum problem? i dont see the connection between a busted oil line and the other problems. anyone know a good mechanic in the d.c./md area? i would also be happy to pay a dieselhead to let me come over and help me work these and some other smaller problems out

sounds like a vacuum line has been broken. maybe he broke on or it just got disconnected. look for unhooked vacuum lines.

oh no.........

#1. Brake power booster vacuum line.
#2. The brown vacuum hose from the injection pump the fuse box area.
#3. The primary vacuum line from the vacuum pump may have been broken, if every thing went wrong.
#4. Reversed vacuum hoses.

You need help ASAP.
A vacuum routing diagram, a mightyvac and a good flash light.

Question:
What did they do that took two hours?
The turbo line is a one hour job, start to finish.
Did they clean the engine compartment?

Something sounds fishy here:
There may be reason to mess with vacuum hoses on the passenger = right side of engine, but not the driver side.
If they power washed the oil off, you could have a bunch of disconnected or broken vacuum hoses.

Mitch Carr's in Kensington, MD. (301) 493-9460. I have said on this forum before............I would trust them with my first born.

It helps a lot to have knowledge gained from this forum to have an idea before you take it in. They appreciate knowledgeable people. But he specializes in older Mercedes.

thanks for the replies. in answer to whunters questions, no the engine was not cleaned off. the mechanic was extremely rude over the phone and charged me 75 bucks labor. this price was lowered from $120 because he "felt bad" that the part costed 136 bucks from mercedes. 250 bucks to get my car and get the hell out was what i decided to do. guenthers auto in pleasantville, nj. stay away everyone. i know when i'm being taken but i was out of state and needed the car. also thanks alan hamm for the info.

Oops

FYI brecchi has a 1984 300D turbo.

Questions:
brecchi did you get the old part back?

Have you looked for broken vacuum lines?

The oil line attaches to the rear of the oil filter housing if I remember correctly, and it's a sure bet the plastic part of the vac line with all the supply nipples on it is brittle -- probably got crunched while fitting the oil line (especially if they didn't open the hood all the way!).

That's the only think I can think of that would reduce the vac that much -- just a couple small lines broken won't affect the brake booster much.
