missing Thermo Vacuum Valve ???

I seem to be missing some kinda of vacuum switch on my 1982 300TD.

the item pictured with two vacuum hoses is not present on my car. There is no plug, cap or anything. The EGR vacuum line goes straight to the plug thing on top of the valve cover.

I believe the missing item is called a "thermo vacuum valve"

Any ideas as to why my car seems to not be equiped for this? Or could it be in a different location on those wierd CA models?

BTW, this is not a picture of my car.

...I just realized that I could care less about the EGR and may just very well plug the EGR vacuum line anyway

so why should I even care about this missing item

can I just remove or disconnect that wierd central plug on the valve cover if the EGR is disabled?

its supposed to open up vacuum to EGR when coolant temp reaches about 40C....If you care about having one. I have one of those vacuum valves but it doesn't do anything anymore. Thanks, Brian
