My 1982 300TD "Cali" has the air recirculation valve on the turbo. Everything I've researched says that only 1984+ california models and 85+ Federal models had this valve.
![]() I'm guessing a previous owner replaced the turbo and an "ARV turbo" was either cheaper, in-stock, or readily available at a local junkyard. Is this most likely what I'm looking at or has anyone else seen the ARV turbos on the 1983 and earlier CA cars? Is there any HP/MPG advantage or disadvantage to the ARV? Or is it a trivial item? Mine has no vacuum hose attached to it nor do I find any disconnected hose nearby. Is it ok to leave it unplugged or does the vacuum port on the ARV need to be capped? ![]()
