keeping my 300D in tip top
a few months ago i bought a GreyMarket 300D n/a 4 speed, 103528 miles when i bought it. When i bought it there was a ton of after market emision equipment on it. after riping that all out and adding some injector cleaner the thing runs great and quiet. however latly ive knoticed afew things that were bothering me. formost the thing is leaking oil from around the front main and it might even be the front main. is there a place around the front of the engine that is prone to leaking? second proplem concerns the brake lights. some times they work some times they dont but they always work if the head lights are on. where might i find that problem? thats about it if i think of anything else ill bring it up

There's a front seal that likes to leak. I recommend fixing it when you change the belts. With a manual in hand it should'nt be too big of a problem.

Seth,
Open the hood. Stand directly infront of the car and look down between the engien and the radiator. You will see the top of the plastic fan cover attached to the radiator. Right behind that you will see the top fo the fan. Behind that you will see the fan/ac/alternator/etc. belts. Follow the belts down directly under the fan and you will see a large (6 in. in dia.) pulley around which the belts run. That pulley is on the end of yor crankshaft, hence the name 'crankshaft pulley. Where the crankshaft goes into the engine there is a seal that keeps the engine oil. You can see it better from under the car. To replace this seal all the above has to be removed. This job is also one of those MAW jobs. MAW means, 'since I am in this far I Might As Well fix......' and can lead to large expenditures of money. At 103k miles your timing chain and slides probably don't need replacing but you are going to take off the front cover to replace the seal so you MAW do the chain, etc. The above job is not for the first time mechanic. It requires a crankshaft pulley puller, jack stands, a good floor jack, etc. Shop the job around to some local independent foreign car repair shops and see what king of price you get. Brake lights. I had trouble with mine and found that If I removed them, cleaned the bulb with a wire brush and the inside of the socket with some emery cloth the worked. |
