In the beginning of this thread, I did replace the glow plugs with ones that worked at the time..

Unfortunatly 3 have them have already burnt out, so I went ahead and replaced all 5 of them. Hopefully I wont have to worry about those for a while now anyway. Also, I got a new shutoff valve. My old one was beginning to not hold vacuum for very long, and it sucked in oil from the inside of the IP. After fiddling around with it enough I finally snaked the valve out without moving anything else (ie. oil filter housing) Got the new one in there (and with a board ready just in case) I started her up. With the first blip on the starter the car is running. And she stops running now too, the right way.

Also I replaced the braided return hoses that started to weap fuel recently.

All is going well and this morning (-10C*) she started like it was a summer day! What a nice car!

When I told Andy about this forum,,,

I NEVER expected his first post to be the largest/longest. Can I also take some credit for teh WVO too, as Andy saw my modified F250 when I delivered the engine to him.

Wow.

Best of continued luck,,,

You deserve a lot of credit.
#1. You introduced him to this forum.
#2. You gave him a great deal on the used engine.
#3. You have been supportive with him on the phone.
#4. You turned him on to SVO/WVO fuels.
and other things I may have forgotten.

He and Sady are gone, but in the best possible way = cruising the road.

Have a great day.

It has been quite some time, but I finally finished up the transmission swap tonight!

The hardest part was aligning the torque converter and the flex plate. When I jacked the transmission up I thought I had it perfect, but it was about 1/8" off... took forever to get it right. Anyway, ask some questions... and here are lots of pictures.

This is the parts car Bruce Kennedy and I bought from a fellow forum member in Peoria Ill. Very Rusty but the engine/trans are in good shape. I took the transmission, and Bruce needed the engine for one of his cars. I was also very happy that the parts car had euro headlights

We drove Bruce's TD to Peoria, here he is filling her up with some Soy Biodiesel, and the parts car behind him

Here's a couple in downtown peoria

So the drive got a little boring...

Update Continued

One of the Euro lights installed on my ride

Old Transmission is out of my car!

New Transmission ready to go!

Here is the drain pan from the old tranny fluid out of the old tranny... notice the metal sparkles?

Where'd the Tranny go?

I did replace all wear items, including flex disks... here are the old (really bad ones) this is at approximately 205k miles. Check yours!

I also did the center support and bearing for the driveshaft. Heres the old busted up one.

Check out the rest of the pictures on the website in my sig, if you wish.

I need to take some follow up finished pictures, the euro lights look great.

I also need to replace my grill.

I have just begun tuning the transmission so that it shifts correctly... I guess it is a little off because I also replaced the modulator. I still have lots of tuning to do, but the shifting overall currently is much much better than it was before.

Great thread guys!

I've been dormant for a while, but have started lurking again, and this thread inspired me to join in the discussion again, and maybe get an update about Sady.

My hats off to you! You are the wrencher that I had hoped to become when I purchased my 1984 300D several years ago. I started off with good intentions, and have learned a ton about cars. It was a great feeling teaching my 13 year old step son how to change the shocks this past weekend. I have changed filters, glowplugs, brakes, and shocks, but due to a variety of reasons I take the car in more than I'd like to.

I have been neglecting some little things that are now starting to add up. The bad part is I knew from the forum that is the one thing you can't do, but for any newcomers make sure you treat your car like Andy, and fix things as they come.

I don't think it's anything that can't be fixed, but I'm starting to question getting them fixed. The 2 big ones are Climate Control and Transmission. If I get that done, then I need to think about cosmetics...ding repair, wheels, paint.

So what am I saying? I'm just saying....Great job Andy!
