Can this be done on my car without the trans removal? I have a 79 300sd. the article says
"The W126 chassis (S body) is the only affected chassis in the Mercedes-Benz line that will permit easy removal/replacement of the B2 piston with the transmission remaining in the vehicle. All other bodies: W107s (SL series), W124s (86-on 250Es, 300Es, 300Ds, 300TEs, 400Es, 500Es), W201s (190 series), and W123s require transmission removal for easy access to the B2 piston. Note that it may be possible to do the replacement with the transmission in the car (see the W107 replacement done by Barry Stark), but it will be difficult due to clearances. "
My mechanic says it can't be removed without trans removal and he thinks it is a gear that is tore up. Im starting to think he is a wacko and this car is saveable without pulling the trans.
Under the car I can see two circles on the right side of the trans above the pan. There is about 4 fingers width of clearance between these and the wall of the car. Am I in business?

on the 116 transmission, there is external band adjustments that could solve your issues... not sure of the models, or specifics, but it might be worth a try?

I wonder if the car ever made it off the rented carrier. It's been about 5.5 years since then...

Exactly! My brother's '78 flares on every gear, so I'm looking for any reason to not suspect the clutch packs... This leads me to doing as I've often done before... reading ALL the threads that MIGHT have something to do with the issue at hand, and trying to help others along the way. seems like 2004 and 2006 were hot years for unfinished threads...
