Air intake to turbo not sealed

(85 300 TD wagon California) - Noticed that last time I had to take out air filter can (large type in front left corner) - when putting back in the clamp for the 3" diameter rubber intake hose did not tighten firmly. Seems the clamp slipped up on the rubber - not fully positioned over metal tube of cannister. Anyone experience this - how does this affect engine and or turbo -
By the way - I have corrected the situation.

Thanks Steve

Dirt would get in as its the path of least resistance. Over a period of time it would reduce engine life.

Here's my current set-up with K & N air filter. I saw this on eBay (www.moguland.com) and Kevin the seller happens to be in my neck of the woods.

Is that an oil separator - Also - any problems if water (splashed from below?) hits the K & N filter? Hows the overall performance?

Thanks for all replies - Steve

Not an easy job unless you only swap in a K&N...

Anybody know if the "big can" can be swapped out - and replaced with smaller (typical) air filter.

Everything can be swapped out and replaced with a federal setup. I have had no problems whatsoever with mine so far.

Yes it is the Oil Separator. The set-up is clean and works very well and I've had no problems with it. The turbo whine is more audible as it is more exposed. With an increase of air intake and a little tweaking of the ALDA = more air and fuel, performance is a little better.
