123 wiper mystery

My 84 300D is doing some peculiar things. First, only one windshield wiper works (the driver side, thankfully). The passenger side wiper moves only slightly. Second, when I start my engine (after the glow plug light goes out) my one working wiper wipes once. Whats up with that?

Passenger side linkage maybe disconnected. As to why it cycles once when you start the car, I would check the wiper lever, especially where it goes into the steering wheel.

Pull off the plastic air intake grilles, you'll see the motor and linkages to both wipers under there. One of the joints on my driver side linkage just fell apart one rainy afternoon, it wasn't fun. New linkage and all is well.

Also see if you can mmake the non working wiper sweep the windshield with your hand. If you can, check the tightness where the arm is attached to the post, and also check your linkage like advised earlier.

Raise the right wiper arm up till it stays up. Lift off the black plastic cover where the arm attaches at the cowl. Tighten the nut on the shaft! I think its a 12 mm or 10mm. If the arm just falls over because its so loose then lower it and align the wiper blade to the base of the windshield then tighten nut.
