Just found '88 wagon with #16 head

£1500 for an '88 diesel wagon but with facelist panels all round - checked head - says #16. Anybody know anything about these heads? Engine sounds sweet, body lovely, and 5 speed.

Thanks

This is a 3.0 and not a 2.5 right? If it is the 3.0 I would search for "603 cracked head" or just "cracked head" for details, seems like there was a thread that gave almost all the head numbers (and problems) within the last month.

Wow a 603 with a 5spd? That thing must fly! "14" head was the original so 16 is better. 17 is when the problem was "fixed". But I wouldn't worry about it just don't overheat it.

UK - this would be a non-turbo? Maybe the 16 head was not for USA import?

I believe the UK market was never actually provided with the OM 602/603 turbo engines so this one is no doubt NA. I'm pretty sure the head cracks were only a systemic problem with the increased pressure/heat produced by the turbo, so the heads should be as reliable as any other OM 601/602--very good.

But the tranny should be the same? I wonder what it would cost to get one of those sent across the pond, hmmm.
