Lots of progress this week on my cheap 300D, esp. the climate control.

Took a break from working on it due to custody battles, but got back to it this week, so far have fixed the door locks (cracked hose in front pass. door hinge), got the engine to shut off with key and shift better (leaky vac connection at vacuum modulator), disconnected EGR temporarily to track more vac leaks and that made an astounding difference in the turbo boost! Went from dog to hot rod instantly. On the '85 there is a vacuum amplifier that has the tranny and the ALDA hooked up to it, so with the leaks it wasn't increasing fuel delivery when the boost came on.
Just last night we had the first real rains in two years, so getting the defogger working became a priority, so far had changed out the control unit and the blower fan (gotten for free off a friends parts car) nothing doing, no clicking or any signs it was trying to work, the though of trying to track it down farther was daunting, then by chance I'm going to turn off the car, and in the first tiny turn of the key back from the run position it comes on full blast! I never noticed because I usually turned off the buttons after poking around in the unit, this time I didn't, so never noticed the after starting the key will stay a tiny, tiny bit too far to the right that somehow breaks the connection the climate control. Also put on a new trunk lid and used lock cylinder to replace the jimmied open ones, filed the wafers in the cylinder down so it works with the existing key. now it's on to replacing the oil cooler hose with the pinhole leak I found after really cleaning up the engine compartment.
