Considering a towing hitch for an SD
I have an '85 SD and I would like to know if there are any towing hitches specifically made for these cars? I will be pulling a trailer that is roughly 300lbs and it will be hauling an '82 5cyl turbo diesel engine and tranny. Is that too much for the SD? The engine in the SD is strong and the tranny is strong. I would appreciate any help you guys can give on the subject.

I just bought a hitch for my 82 300SD. They are expensive because there's not a big demand. I paid $225 + shipping (hitchfinder.com). It requires drilling two holes in the aluminum bumper and two in the box frame. A bit of a PITA to install - took me an hour and a half.
Last weekend we picked up a load of firewood that weighed at least 1500 pounds including the trailer, but only drove 4 miles with it. I'd feel OK about 1000 pounds, but knowing the transmissions in these cars, I'd be careful.
