You really don't need to switch weights anymore, if you chose to run a 5w-40 oil it will be fine all year round. 6k mile changes are fine you could probably go longer if you get the oil tested.

Sorry Hatterasguy, I meant to say
"AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil "

I am saying AMSOIL because I found an AMSOIL dealer near where i live.

Today I dropped by Walmart to check out the oils. I was not able to find Mobil Delvac 1. I only saw Mobil 1 15W50, red cap, it also said that it is for gassers.

Hmm, I kind of want to run something thicker, if I understand the numbers right, the 15W40 vs 5W40 will be a thicker oil to begin with. Just in summer I like the thicker stuff.

I searched the approved oils website, on the www.whunter.....(I forgot the address.)
Would you guys happen to know if the 1995 OM606 non-turbo belongs on

MB approved oils list : 229.3 and 229.5 ?

A very smart move.
Oil is one of the few car related topics where the customer/owner MUST tell me exactly what they want.
If they want it, put it in writing and I will pour it in.

What you do with the links is up to you.

The Amsoil 5w-40 euro oil at 6500 mile change intervals should do you fine

I'm also in the Toronto area and although this will be my first winter with the SDL, I plan to use 0W-40 Synthetic oil through the colder winter months and a Block Heater whenever I can.

I have had great difficulty finding Mobil-1 Delvac in this area and Esso Distributors only want to sell it by the case at really high prices. The best oil deal I have found is at Wal-Mart who stock Esso XD-3 Synthetic 0W-40 Diesel rated for $21.95 Cdn ($17.75 US) for 4 litres. Despite being from Esso (part of Exxon-Mobil) it looks like it has slightly different specs than the Delvac, but it is the only Diesel rated Synthetic I have found locally.

BTW, Wally-Mart doesnt (yet?) have the SUV-HD Synthetic Oil that in the US is the same as Delvac-1.

Be very carefull with 0w-40 older engines tend not to like it, I have heard reports of lower oil pressure and increased wear metals. 0w-40 is really ment for newer gas engines. That stuff poors like water!

Any mobil 1 is light duty diesel rated, thats what our cars are a light duty application.

E300D I to run a heaver oil in the summer I don't need to but I do it anyway. I run Mobil 1 15w-50 in the summer. The thinking behind it is a thicker oil will protect better in the hotter wheather. But that is from the old days your engine will never get hot enough to hurt Amsoil/Delvac 5w-40. But having said that I still run a thicker oil in the summer.

I use Mobil1 15W-50 even in the winter. It has the same pour point as 5W-40 and from my freezer experiment they don't flow much differently at freezer temps, the 5W-40 is just a little more fluid but not much. Hatterasguy is right about the 0W-40, it's not for our old diesel engines unless you live beyond the polar circle. I tried it briefly in my 82 300D and the engine didn't like it after a cold start. Lots of shaking and blue smoke.

Yup. I remember seeing -4 on my dash console one night leaving work. Coldest I've ever seen it.

I also have run D1 all year basically since I bought the car back in Nov. 2002. No problems running it all year. I've found through oil analysis that 7-8K on thee oil is fine. Some change their oil filters at 3-4K and add a quart or so to top off....

Talking Lubricant

Delvac 1 5W40 "year round" with oil anylization every 5,000 to 7,500 miles
may allow you to run as far as 10,000 miles between oil changes.

Mobil ( I can't print Exxon Mobil without getting the whim whams about
Alaskan estuaries) will soon come out with a drop in style synthetic oil
filter that filters down to five (5) microns.

You're gonna have to elaborate on this hot like fire 5 micron filter.
