Vacuum connectors
Replaced one 4way and three 3way vacuum connectors, the old ones had little cracks in it. Break feeling is much better now and I got rid of an annoying zooooming sound under the dash.
Great feeling when a small investment pays off!

I'm not sure, but I guess it was escaping air, it would last and change in tone for a couple of seconds after turning the engine off. In the beginning it would only be there if I used the heater the day before, but the last months the sound was always present. Drove me nuts, now there is still a little rattle; sounds like someone is rattling a key chain...something is loose under the dash.

Jorn,
If you have an auto trans, I hope you didn't replace the triconnector on the vacuum valve with one with out the restriction. If you did, you will be looking for another transmission soon. P E H |

Jorn,
Though I am in no way attempting to speak on behalf of PEH, I believe he may be referring to the tri-valve/connector in the main vacuum line that leads directly to the brake vacuum booster. If so, mine is grey and has two diverter nipples going off at 90 degree angles from the main line. I'll be watching this one carefully since one of the nipples broke recently on my '84.

Long way to get to the photo but this is what I think he refers to.

Don't forget to replace the straight vacuum connections. they are rubber and can deteriorate as much as the 3/4 way connectors. check the hard lines for crackes and oil. clean them with carb cleaner or brake cleaner.

Jorn,
The vacuum tri connector I'm talking is the one that connects the vacuum supply to the vacuum valve mounted on the IP and the transmission. It has a restriction in the lead going to the vacuum supply which alloaws the vacuum valve to vary the vacuum to the transmission depending on the position of the throttle. This connector looks like he one in the pictures but should have a plastic clip on the lead that has the restriction inside it. This is only applicable to cars with auto transmission. P E H |
