Cold Start Problems

1982 240D 235K miles, known low compression problem.
Just went through an episode of hard start to no start problems now that the temps have dropped up here in Canada.
Adjusted the valves but still no go.
Suspected the starter and removed it with some great advice from this Forum.(Mine was pulled through the top)
Armature was shorted and bushing was shot. $190 CDN to completely overhaul.
Spins great now but still hard starting if not plugged in for a few hours before starting.
Changed oil the other day with Mobil 1 0w40 and added a can of Restore.
Engine now starts near instantly at below freezing temps without block heater plugged in.
Changed to synthetic oil after reading cold start advice from this Forum.
Thanks for all the great advice.
