Turbo oil return line and a Festivus©®™ Miracle
Hi to All,
Sometime back I was asking everyone on the forum specifics about replacing the lower turbo oil return line as my situation still showed a leak after replacing the lower tube with a new out of the bag MB part. Much to my surprise while sourcing a local MB shop for a new tube...I found out from the shop owner that he had the same problem with leaks after replacing the lower tubes. It turns out that he has received in his words, "several" lower oil return tubes that had a leak on one or both ends. The leaks seem to be where the grooved ends attach to the straight portion of the pipe. They are welded together I guess??? to form the pipe. This is where the leaks occur. I purchased a new tube with no leaks. We tested at his shop by simply placing underwater and applying a bit of air pressure to one end while blocking the other end with my hand. When I swapped this one in to my car it worked w/o leaking!!!!! FINALLY!!!!! I tested the first lower tube I bought just by blowing into one end while blocking the other with my hand and the leak was very obvious. My intent is to let everyone know that if you plan to replace the lower tube, grommet and orings please check the lower oil return tube for leaks PRIOR to using as a replacement.
