My best friend lives on a large farm and they bought a brand new John Deer rated at 115hp and it did over 140hp without giving it everything on the dyno. So you are telling me that your Benz will not go over 110mph? I thought something was wrong with my car… I know the valves need adjusted… You better do some work to you Benz.
Your speedometer might have been off a certain percentage. I don't see why you couldn't reach 106 mph with good firing fuel. Even at 320K miles. 106 mph is the factory rated top speed for the 126 300SD, and I believe that occurs at around 4600'ish.

However, I have found that most Mercedes electronic speedometers seem to get more accurate with age while the mechanical ones almost always are optimistic.

I know that a fully loaded 2001 C220 Diesel (non turbo) Euro edition w/6speed manual tops out around 155mph on the autobahn Plus it averaged 36mpg in normal driving, and about 27 at 155, which was around 3600 RPM. It was silent at idle, and could easily squeal the tires (if u turned off ASP) That was one awesome car....well, it was a wagon version, but it rocked.

.....still got passed like we were sitting still by some S500's and Porsche's ect....

I don't want to sound like a jerk. But I think that speedometer was off by a massive percentage. I know the differential gearing on those, and it would never make it to that speed unless you were pressing redline. 3600 rpms would be 130 mph at best.

Here's a CDI at speed.

This car is a modified Carlsson S320 CDI with an ECU upgrade.

Well, in 5th gear around 135mph'ish, it was at about 5000rpm (yes my dad was going to the extreme....) But it had a 6th gear that dropped off about 1200rpm or so, but no additional gain in speed at all........I may not be remembering it right, but I do know we hit between 150-155 at one point.....(down a looong hill)

pawo, I'm not even sure the speedometer would go up to 160 mph. Usually they will go up to 140 mph. In that case, 130 mph would look like 155 mph.

Also, I am pretty sure the 01 C220 diesel was turbocharged since it was a CDI engine.

Still, its pretty quick.

To achieve a speed of 155 mph, this vehicle would require upwards of 275 hp.
While I do not have the hp figures at hand for this vehicle, I am quite convinced that it cannot achieve anywhere near this horsepower level without a turbocharger and extreme modifications.

This is a very high rate of speed for any production car. I'm quite sure that you would need a very high powered S class vehicle to achieve it.

Pawo take a look at the picture. I would assume the S is blown to the extremes. Even with its aerodynamic Cd of 0.27, it still needs at least 240 - 250 hp to make it to 155 mph(this assuming top speed occurs at hp peak).

Don't worry, 130 mph is usually faster than most Mercedes made for the US anyways outside of AMG. Speed limiters, you know.

I may have been off in my figures.....but our car had a speedo that went to 260km/h and I specifically remember us hitting about 245km on a downhill stretch, I think I have video of it somewhere........245km equals about 152mph.....maybe I am insane This thing could literally plaster you into your seat though.......so its not possible with a 6 speed manual sport transmission then?? I'm trying to find info on this model of car.....but am not having luck....

I did find a picture of the car, this is the exact one we had:

I guess your speedometer DOES have a 260 km/h sweep. Sorry, I was mistaken.

BTW, here are the tech specs on the C220 CDI transmission

Hmmm..., I stand corrected. It looks like that car could roll up to 155 mph.
