Increased Cabin Moisture and Recirculating Function Issues
Hello Again............
On yesterdays jaunt through the woods.............. It seemed like in all modes (except Off and Defrost) that the recirculate function comes on automatically. Unfortunately - it sometimes has a mind of its own and will not shut off. Pressing the switch will turn it off for 1-2 seconds and then it comes back on. While in the recirculate mode - I have an increase of moisture in the car that requires the use of the rear window defroster and to manually switch over to the windshield defroster. Brief Background..... Re-soldered the CCU and everything 'seems' to work fine. Temp. Sensing, Blower Motor speeds, Air coming out of proper vents in various modes, A/C was working(might still be - Comp. kicks on in all modes except EC - too hard to tell at single digits near zero), Off works, etc................ Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Stephen

I'm not sure about the balky CCU, but the increased moisture may be a leaking heater core. Thats the only source I know where moisture could be added to the cabin air.

If the compressor isn't coming on and the system is stuck in recirculate mode, then just the presence of a person in the car will fog the windows after a while. Heavy breathing will make them fog faster. So verify compressor function before you panic about the heater core.

If the heater core is leaking you can usually smell it. You might also want to check the drains below the cores because if the condensation on the evaporator isn't draining it will just recirculate into the car.

Good Morning.........
Looks like I need to do some research to find the drains......... The good news is that yesterday we drove the car for about 3 hours and had no problems with the moisture. Temp was over 20F compared to the previous day where it was near 0F There is no smell of coolant in the cabin - which I am very thankful for. We'll be keeping an eye on this throughout the winter. Thank You for the replies........ Stephen

On my 124, I disconnect my A/C compressor during the winter months as I don't want it coming on with the defrost cycle, and if unless it's raining, and my cloths are damp, I get no moisture at all on windows! Exception: In the fall, and with just the heat on, It takes a week to dry up residule condensed water from the ac/heater core box, (from summer months) so there is some moisture on windows for a week or so.
My 201 has a slowly leaking heater core, cant smell it, but it fogs the windows year round and is getting worse! Only time it doesn't fog windows is when the A/C is on! BB |
