Okay, so tell us what it was that you guys did that got the plug out. Some of us might need it for future reference. If you can get that tap to work, you might be able to save it. If not, then use a Timesert and you'll be all set. Reasonably cheap too compared to any kit Mercedes would have.

Just drilled the GP till it was past the threads and then used a set of tweezers to extract it. Since we didn't get the angole perfect, we did cut into the side of the head a little but I don;t think that affects anything. The threads are also screwed up so we will have to work on that. What is this Timesert you speak of?

See http://www.timesert.com/. It's a thread repair kit like Helicoil that you may have heard of. I think a Timesert is a better product for this application.

Oh well. The inserts were M10 X 1.0 not M12 X 1.25. The WIS cannot be found and nothing in the kit seems to work for my case. I'm tired of screwing around with it. Headjob is next and the machine shop can deal with it. We are just prolonging the inevitable anyways.

Head is on and the car runs. Now to make a virgin sacrifice to the automotive gods.
