Another silly newbie question{water leak}

Hello again all,
Bizzarre accumulation of water restricted to the rear passenger floor when moderate to heavy rain.

Door seals look OK, perhaps it's telegraphing from elsewhere, anyone experienced this odd phenomenon?

I've been told this is the seal around the rear window leaking. Mine does it too, although not too badly (helps to park it under cover ).

Most probably your rear glass rubber has a crack..
could be your air vent behind your rear door window.. if clogged with leaves like mine... or if you aim the water hose at it when washing you car it puts it in the floor...
Can also be your trunk lid seal....
Do you have a sun-roof ? Have you cleaned out the drains for it ?

I'll investigate those other things you mention.

As for the sun roof, when I get that fixed so it opens I'll check that out as well

Water in the cabin comes from leaks upfront in my experiences.

Try these:

Clean ALL the drains, especially those by the hoodhinges. They are probably full of mud and leaves.

remove battery and tray and clean underneath. might as well rust coat the tray while its out.

Use a hose and make sure you can see water run out of all the drains from front to rear. sunroof drains exit behind chrome molding on C pillar.

Check for leaks at the front window gasket around the bottom corners. Same for rear.

Rear talight gaskets probably leak and the water shows up in the trunk wells. Try taking the assemblies out and cleaning/reinstalling. Also clean out the lenses- they dust/mold accumulates on the inside of the lenses and light output is diminished. If they still leak, replace gaskets.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice!

Now apart from creativity, intelligence and general mechanical knowledge are there any illustrations{body service manuals, etc.} that would show the locations of these drainholes?

A manual may be posted at Skinnerbox.steaky.org... or something similar... search this site for first skinnerbox...
I don't know if that site only has the engine manual or if it includes the two chassis manuals... which is where these drains are covered...

I agree with fahgr, water in the cabin does usually come from the front. You need to also peel up the carpet in the RF so you can see the water come in. Water from a bad rear windshield seal is what usually ends up in the trunk wells rusting those out. Most likely your drains at the hinges are clogged. Water ends up in the back seat because it's lower thus it all runs there.
Thanks
David

KEEP THOSE DRAINS CLEANED OUT! THE DRAINS AT THE HOOD HINGES ARE CRUCIAL. I speak from experience.

The aforementioned hood hinge drains??I had no trouble locating them......as they were hidden under an accumulation of leaves, dirt, pollynoses and other choice detritus native to the area I live in!

Got out the old shop vac, baling wire and the compressor nozzle for good measure so we'll see what happens, while I was at it I found a disconnected vacuum hose, that when re-connected gave the door locks a more rapid snap and seemed to ease the shifting of the tranny,Saint Nick works in mysterious ways.

Thank you all for the courtesy of your advice which I may call upon frequently..........and MERRY CHRISTMAS and a happy and healthy
