Question Has anyone here pulled a 606 head?

Looks like I'll be pulling the head - the head gasket is leaking coolant (externally). Has anyone done one of these before, and more specifically, are there any little tricks or "gotchas" along the way?

Thanks Everyone!

RunningTooHot,

I have a 1995 E300D OM606 127k miles.
I think I need to pull the head also. My wife ran it out of coolant.
I have the 124 repair CD's available with info on the engine.

Mike

Did you ever end up replacing your head gasket?

Be sure it is the head gasket before you tear into it. Inspection mirror, talcum powder, pressure tests etc.

Is this a recognized problem with the 606?

They do have a head gasket or a head gasket kit for $200 wich includes prechamber seals and other items. Was checking into it in anticipation of a head R&R.

Perhaps this thread is officially dead…

Yes, it was done several months ago. Did a valve job at the same time. Had to replace one of the prechambers due to a loose ball pin. You could still see the factory original honing marks on the cylinder bores(!). Replaced all the fuel lines while apart & easily accessible. She runs like a champ – going to watch the odometer turn over 342,000 later today…
