Differential Fill plug 300D
Just a few quick questions.
I just got a 1991 300D 2.5 turbo and was doing some mantiance while waiting for a part for the transmission. Did oil and filter, both fuel filters, serviced trans, cooling system. Went to the back of the car to service the differential and as per advice given on the board I went to remove the Fill plug and guess what, I couldn't fine it. Sure glad I didn't drain it first. So question 1 is: Where is the differential fill plug? Second question: Does this transmission start in first or second? Thanks very much and I hope all have a GREAT new year.

"fill-plug" '91 300D 2.5 (rear end)
I have to fight Netscape/Mozilla/Internet Explorer every time I try to access
the service C.D.s . One or all of them are always screaming that I haven't loaded AR32E301.exe (the "read-me" file on the C.D. tells you to load acrobat 4.0 instead) My little cross. Anyway, on to the location of the fill plug.It is on the opposite side of the "chunk" from the drain plug (on the drivers side, pointed forward at about a 45 degree angle) We are cautioned to drain (and/or check the oil level) with the rear end at operating temperature. This will be a neat trick, vehicle must be LEVEL to accurately check level of oil. Both drain and fill plugs should be torqued to 50Nm. 14mm hex will do both. I do not know if this "Tranny" starts in first or second. |
