Round connector with 3 male prongs...
Hello Folks
I've got a problem identifying a loose electrical cable dangling behind the brake's power booster. This cable has a round plug with three male prongs. I traced the wires back which concluded to three connections. Two of the connections were to sensors located between glow plugs on the cylinder head. The third was hooked to a sensor mounted on the injector pump. After spending a few days on this riddle I cannot locate the counterpart female plug. Anyone recognize this? Or can anyone trace where these connections belong on their MB? With Regards, Peter - 1984 300D |

On my '85, the connection on the passenger side of the injecton pump is a rack position sensor used by the EGR controller. It connects at the firewall between the valve cover and mono valve. I believe the ones in the head are temp sensors for the glow plug controller and temp gauge.

Hello Jhal,
Appreciate your valuable input. Just got inside from my garage before reading this. I shall confirm this tomorrow evening after work. Hopefully it will not be a very difficult area to access Quote:

Thanks a million for these pictures! That's it, right there - the big round coupler between the mono valve and the valve covers on the firewall just like Jhal said. I don't remember seeing those cables on the firewall routed across. Can't wait until the workday is over so I can run back to the garage to confirm where those thick cables are now. Just to keep everyone posted I just purchased this car a few weeks ago. The PO had the engine rebuild. From the looks of it was a "slam bang" job. So I am trying to reconstruct the mess. I shall post a late evening or tomorrow morning update! |

UPDATE: Part II
Folks,
I believe I am getting closer to the answer I seek but I need a little more assistance. So far I've learned that this male/female prong connector were routed through more than one path depending on year and Federal or Non version. Below you will see a picture of the male end. As mentioned the female end is missing which happens to be the search of this thread. After some research and comparison it's apparent this wire was not routed across the firewall as illustrated in Randy Leo's pictures. So in the ongoing restoration I vacuumed all the debris and dead leaves around the nook and crevices below the brake booster. After the cleaning I discovered an access hole covered with insulation right below the hood release cable. Pictures of this area is also attached here. You need to look carefully because this access hole is not a see through due to the insulation just beneath it. Something was routed through this access hole and I am betting it was the female side of this round male connector. But it's not there anymore... Can someone with '82 through early '84 look under their hood to see what wire comes through there and what it hooks through please? Thanks in advance! Peter |

Peter,
I'm not ignoring you. I'm simply up to my ears in work and with an invalid dog to boot. I hope to have a bit of time this weekend to chase these cables down.

the female end of the connector (C158) should go from the location on the firewall, as shown in Randys photo, down to the EGR control unit in the passenger kick panel. I will have my '85 in the shop on Saturday and will take a closer look to confirm the route it takes.

Yes...I would expect the '85 versions, both Fed and CA, to be routed as illustrated in Randy's picture. However I suspect with the '82 through early '84s FEDs were routed another way. This is why I am requesting confirmation from owners from above mentioned vintages... With Regards, Peter |
