It's a good looking vehicle.

However, there is no way of really knowing if the engine has "problems" right now. If you go down and drive it before the auction ends, you still cannot confirm, with certainty, that it's not drinking oil at an excessive rate.

It's one thing to buy it in good condition and keep your fingers crossed.

It's quite another to buy it and immediately face the prospect of a new engine.

I know...I saw that one and drooled over it too.......I have heard so many horror stories about the "ROD BENDER" I may never do more that admire...from a cheap distance.

Looking at the seller's feedback, I notice that the auction numbers for many of his sales are listed as "private". Even if those auctions are recent enough to still be in the eBay system, one can't view them.

(Edited to add: one can view recent auctions (up to 30 days) by performing a search on completed items from this seller. However, the bidder IDs are private, so there's no easy way to connect feedback to auction. So, the auctions are there, but no links to them are provided on the feedback page.)

If I'm trying to evaluate the feedback left by buyers (and any responses from the seller), it sure helps to be able to see what was bought, how much was paid for it, how it was described in the auction, how it looked, etc. This can help to take the edge off of an unreasonable negative feedback comment; for example, sometimes it's clear that the buyer is disappointed because he imagined something much, much better than was presented. For positive comments, it's also free advertising - the prospective bidder can drool over some of the great cars the seller has already sold to satisfied buyers.

What am I missing here? How can such a policy be good (for a good seller)?

(Count me among the droolers here, too - the car looks nice!)

"The classic lines and features of the '87 S-Class are unmistakable. This vehicle is offered as INVESTMENT-GRADE, BUY-to-HOLD."

That does it, I'm cashing in my 401K and buying 1980's MB diesels. I'll put them in storage, and in 20 years I'll sell them on EBAY and buy my own private island.

Sharp looking car.
I see the window sticker in the pictures.
What was the sticker price of this car in 1990? Big bucks?

Smile I have a 1991 350SDL

I have a 1991 350SDL with 71k miles (certified, not exempt), single owner, garaged, no prior paint work, zero corrosion, just traded on a new '05 E300 CDI. Anthracite / Grey int. Excellent inside and out. All books, all service intervals complete @ the MB dealer. I'm going to be listing it on Ebay soon without reserve. I think it's worth mid teens, but we'll see..

Additional MB Diesels in inventory soon to be listed-

1985 300D
1987 300SDL
1992 E300D 2.5
1993 300SD (W140)
1999 E300D (W210)
